The Bureau of Land Management contracted with Ahtna Environmental, Inc. (Ahtna) to perform a civil construction project at the Campbell Tract Facility, more specifically the Campbell Creek Science Center (CCSC) road.
The project consisted of asphalt demolition, roadway subgrade replacement, and the construction of a 2-inch-thick asphalt concrete pavement overlay. The CCSC road surface was 4,919± feet long and 24 feet wide. Also included as part of the project was supplying and placing a compacted gravel shoulder, 4± feet wide on either side of the new asphalt overlay; and saw cutting and removal of minor portions of existing asphalt at CCSC building driveways, parking areas and public parking lots to tie in the new asphalt being placed.
To complete the work, Ahtna developed a traffic control plan, and implemented and self-performed the necessary traffic control and dust control for the project. To ensure Ahtna met and exceeded the quality objectives of the project, Ahtna obtained an independent testing agency to conduct and provide all of the third-party Quality Control/Quality Assurance testing for each definable feature of work associated with the project.
This project was completed ahead of schedule and under budget.
